IMR IN JORDAN
Country Context
Jordan is one of the most water-scarce countries in the world. It imports over 90% of its energy and national grain consumption needs.
Informal workforce is >50% of national workforce. This percentage has great socioeconomic ramifications especially as COVID pushed informal worker households into poverty.
IMR Jordan’s country strategy is inspired by the objectives of Jordan Compact, signed in 2016, as a model for inclusion of refugees in their host communities.
IMR strategy for Jordan has two objectives:
- To deliver short-term food and shelter assistance for refugees, especially during seasonal spikes such as Ramadan and winterization
- To create economic opportunities which improve the economic inclusion of Syrian refugees among their hosts and improve their self-reliance, thereby creating a win-win situation for both Syrian refugees and their Jordanian hosts alike.
