Single Week
29 September 2024 — Thousands of Lebanese have fled their homes, as smoke still lingered over the southern suburbs of Beirut on Saturday morning after a wave of airstrikes overnight. Hundreds of families are now displaced, with many seeking refuge in public squares, on beaches, or inside their vehicles. Schools have been turned into makeshift shelters, and are overflowing with those escaping the destruction. The humanitarian crisis in Lebanon is worsening by the hour.
This week alone, the conflict has already claimed more than 700 lives across Lebanon.
We are nearing a year since Lebanon plunged into a severe humanitarian crisis, worsened by ongoing conflict since October 2023. The country has experienced over 1,200 deaths, with 569 casualties reported in a single week of violence. According to the IOM, more than 90,000 people have been newly displaced in the past month alone, bringing the total number of displaced people to nearly 200,000. The majority of these displaced are fleeing the southern and eastern parts of Lebanon. The general population also includes 2 million refugees from Syria and Palestine.
The violence has severely impacted civilian infrastructure, with homes, schools, and shelters destroyed. Humanitarian organizations are working to deliver vital aid, but the need for food, shelter, and medical supplies is overwhelming.
