IMRELIEF IN YEMEN
Country Updates - Ramadan 2024
IMRelief was able to reach to areas in Al Jawf and Taz delivering food packages to 1,600 beneficiaries.
In Yemen, approximately 4.5 million of government controlled areas are experiencing high levels of acute food insecurity (AFI), with at least 1.3 million in IPC Phase 4 (Emergency) status.
Country Context
Food insecurity is among the most pressing challenges in Yemen and over half of the population is food-insecure.
Malnutrition rates among women and children in Yemen are among the highest in the world, with 1.3 million pregnant and breastfeeding women and 2.2 million children under 5 requiring treatment for acute malnutrition.
Climate risks abound: Recurring flash floods and water shortages, impacting the already-deficient infrastructure and depleted agriculture.
According to the UNHCR, 21.6 million Yemenis (two-thirds of the population) are dependent on humanitarian assistance, including 4.5 million IDPs, and 71,000 refugees and asylum-seekers. (As of June 2023)
